Aimed at: Anyone new to PR, and those changing roles within consultancies or in-house PR departments. This is the first part of a structured modular series (for a more advanced course, see Progressing your PR Skills Part 2)

• Understanding the demands of the media

• How to use the press, TV, radio, mobile and the web

• Effective press releases and newsletters

• Improving basic writing skills

• Building media relations

• Using blogs and social networking

• Preparing for radio, podcast and TV interviews

• Maximising event coverage

• Research and evaluation

• The principles of planning and wider PR techniques

Not for: Those with more than 18 months' experience
