Where
does training take place?
At our Centre for Media Excellence, 7a Bayham Street, London NW1
0EY, in central London, conveniently situated a couple of minutes'
walk from Mornington Crescent tube. Also you can walk from Camden
Town underground station (seven minutes or so). Mornington Crescent
is on the Northern line Charing Cross branch, and Camden Town is
on both branches of the Northern line.
It's about 15 minutes' walk from King's Cross and St Pancras and
10 minutes from Euston mainline stations.
There are plenty of buses that go past the door from all over London.
Please see our map for bus routes and numbers. The 214 bus from
King's Cross, in York Way, will take about 10 minutes. The 46 stops
a couple of blocks away.
The 253, 168, 134, 88, 29, 27, and 24 all pass by, stopping at Mornington
Crescent underground station from the north and south of our training
rooms.
Mac
or PC?
We train on both platforms. Our PCs are actually new iMacs running
Windows XP. They're fast and reliable and indistinguishable from
PCs (except for being faster).
What
about broadband connection?
We have a 4Mb wired connection, and a super-fast Airport Extreme
wireless network.
What
time do the workshops start?
9.30am, and we aim to finish around 5.00pm, you'll break for lunch
and coffee (for which read 'comfort')
Is
lunch provided?
Of course. You order when you arrive in the morning, and your order
is freshly prepared and served from 12.30pm.
I
have special dietary requirements.
No problem. Again simply make this known when you order and you'll
be catered for.
Why
do I have to submit material to PMA before the course?
Because we tailor all our workshops for each delegate's needs. And
it helps the tutor assess your particular skills gaps and your current
level of expertise. Don't be surprised if the tutor calls you beforehand
to ask you what you expect from the course.
What
happens after the course if I have a query about what I've learnt?
No problem, you can call us and we'll put your question to your
tutor, or put you in touch with the tutor. It's all part of the
service.
I'm
worried that I might not be as good as others in my group?
Don't worry, we try our best to match people of similar abilities.
But even if this is not always possible - especially if people are
modest or ambitious about their own standard - we give exercises
at your level during the course with some one-to-one tuition. This
is the reason why we only allow a maximum of six or eight delegates
to attend each workshop. In any event, you're with us to learn,
so we'll take good care of you.
Who
else will be in my group?
You could be with people from publishing, PR, online media, broadcast
media, general business, a charity or a government department. Many
people like the diversity, it provides an insight into different
sectors. Of course you may end up with a class full of people from
similar backgrounds.
How
many are in each group?
This varies, in general, from two, to eight. We try and keep class
sizes small to ensure the highest quality tuition.
What
kind of experience do the tutors have?
All of our tutors have expert knowledge in their own fields. Most
are still working at a high level in their chosen areas, and have
a wealth of practical experience to draw upon and share.
How
long has PMA been around?
We've been training the magazine publishing industry since 1980.
During this time there has been a growing demand for our skills
from other sectors, which is why our client list now includes multinationals,
government departments, the public sector and charities.
I'm
trained as a print journalist, but I'm being asked to produce podcasts
and video content for the web. Help!
Relax. It's our job to stay one step ahead of developments in media
and communications. We can show you how to put a podcast together,
how to adapt your interviewing techniques for online broadcasts,
and how to shoot and edit video using readily available equipment.
We'll even give you a free copy of some digital recording software
to help you along. |
